The Porchester Centre was built in 1923-25 by the local architect Herbert Shepherd and was originally called Porchester Hall. In 1927-29, it was extended by Shepherd and H. A. Thomerson, adding Turkish baths, a library and assembly rooms. The hall is an unusually rich example of its date.
Porchester Hall’s classic art deco design and understated elegance, make it a sought-after venue. The Main Hall is the ‘Very essence of grandeur and opulence, The Hall walls are handsomely paneled in English oak and walnut, luxurious rich crimson ‘Velvet curtains. Fascination motifs support the main beam, while ten magnificent crystal chandeliers, adorned in gold leaf effect, hang from the superb/y engra1Jed ceiling.
